ENVIRONMENT

Our products make a significant contribution to improving indoor living standards, conservation of energy and are ecologically friendly.

As a responsible company, Alarwool S.L. will conduct its business in a manner, which minimizes the impact of its activities on the environment.

Environmental considerations are integrated throughout many aspects of our business from supplier through each process of manufacturing the carpet and finally to the customers installation.

To achieve the objectives Alarwool will:

Comply with all applicable legal regulations

Continue to invest in environmental improvements

Continuously improve environmental performance

Continue to develop and market carpets with positive
   environmental properties, manufactured by processes
that have the least environmental impact

 Minimize energy consumption

Minimize waste generation from all sources and recycle materials

Dispose of all waste by legal, safe and secure methods

Continue to develop an open and effective relationship
with regulatory authorities and the local community

Control and minimize activities that impact upon
     the local community

Ensure appropriate employee training and communication

STRUCTURE

The structure of Alarwool´s S.L. Environmental Management Systems enables effective communication and implementation of environmental initiatives.

In order to ensure a continuous and thorough review of its environmental obligations some of the measure that we take include:

 Assessing legislation and performance

Development of organizational and implementation strategies

 Adhering to process parameters

Efficient plant operation and energy management

Our company promote effective communication and
     implementation of environmental initiatives.

This ensures our manufacturing operations adopt "best available techniques" to minimize environmental impacts

PERFORMANCE

Alarwool´s woven carpets retain their appearance longer than tufted or printed products.

This longer life, together with resistance to soiling and ease of cleaning, leads to lower environmental impact as the carpet is cleaned and replaced less frequently.

Alarwool´s carpets have a long life unlike inferior, all synthetic carpets, they are not replaced on a frequent basis and therefore do not contribute to excessive landfill. The use of natural, compostible materials ultimately reduces residual volumes.

Indoor Air Quality
Alarwool´s carpets meet the very low levels of emissions allowed under the scheme of the Carpet and Rug Institute of Georgia.

Alarwool´s products ensure that the levels are even lower than the maximum allowed under the scheme, confirmed by testing in European labs ITEX.

Recent investigation by Cannes's has shown that wool carpets actually improve the living and working environment through the absorption of noxious gases and balancing humidity levels.

Carpet is considered by many to be beneficial to asthma sufferers, acting as a sink to trap household dust particles such as dust mite faces, to which many people are allergic. Hard floors allow the dust to settle on the surface where it is easily blown back into the atmosphere with every footstep or draft that enters the room.

Wool carpet performs a double function in this area since the normal mothproofing treatment given in the course of manufacture, actually kills off any dust mites which land within the pile, thereby limiting their number considerably.

Thermal Insulation
Carpet is also an excellent thermal insulator. Rooms fitted with carpet feel warmer and indeed achieve lower actual heat loss through the floors, thereby saving on heating bills. A typical carpet fitted on underfelt gives an insulation value between 4-5 Togs. This is equivalent to a summer weight duvet bed cover. In addition, controlled experiments carried out in Japan by IWS (WHO?) on a range of all wool carpets comparing the heating power consumption of identical houses with and without carpet, showed heat savings between 8.6%-12.8%.

Acoustic sound absorption
Carpets reduce noise pollution in terms of both transmission and absorption.

Health and safety
Many hard floors require regular and expensive treatments in order to limit their dangerous slipping tendencies, whilst carpet is inherently non-slip.

Where falls do occur, they are generally less serious due to the softness of the carpet and underlay.

Alarwool´s does not use chemical treatments often necessary to enable other products to pass the required flammability tests

MATERIAL SELECTION

Alarwool S.L. purchase its raw materials only from reliable and recognized suppliers.

Material selection - wool
Wool is the ultimate renewable resource especially when compared to the resource dependent oil based synthetic fibres.

Wool will naturally decompose to compost when disposed of via landfill

Wool waste from our manufacturing process is process in two different ways

1. The waste is sold companies that process it and them it is sell to farmers to spread onto agricultural land to improve the quality of the soil, this is because wool is a natural source of nitrogen.

The yarn waste is sold to companies that recycle it making a ecological fiber carpet cushion

2. Our wool suppliers carried  periodical tests ensuring that pesticides are not present in the wool at unacceptable levels. This preventative action ensures our wool  is not contaminated and can be discharged to the treatment plant.

Material Selection - Natural Backing Materials

Jute, a cellulose based natural fiber, is another renewable resource.

A tufted carpet or any synthetic backed carpet will contain 3-4 times more synthetic material.

Material Selection - Process Chemicals

Alarwool monitor process auxiliaries (dyes and chemicals) to make sure that all suppliers do not use environmentally unacceptable chemicals.

Alarwool S.L. will not use any product that contains substances environmentally unacceptable chemicals. This includes butyl tin compounds, brominated flame-retardants and formaldehyde, which are often associated with the textile
